Chamber music recital in Columbia, Maryland 5/21/11
If you aren't busy being raptured...
Members of the Columbia Orchestra will present a free chamber music concert on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 6800 Oakland Mills Road, in Columbia, Maryland.
The enchanting lyricism of Ravelâs First Violin Sonataâdiscovered long after his deathâopens a program whose emotions range from the tragic to the ebullient! Written shortly before the Fifth Symphony, Shostakovichâs Cello Sonata explores dark, intense terrains alongside whimsical dancing in this virtuosic masterpiece. Finally, orchestra members Paul Li, violin, and Robin Strempek, viola, join the Columbia Orchestra Piano TrioâConcertmaster Brenda Anna, violin, Music Director Jason Love, cello, and orchestra pianist Nancy Smithâfor one of the great chamber works of all time, Schumannâs Piano Quintet. The concert is free and open to the public (donations accepted).
Tickets for the Columbia Orchestraâs Spring Raffle will also be available at the concert. This yearâs raffle features nine outstanding prize packages, each valued at $400 or more.
