Just listened to this. Have to confess was never that fond of Wagner.

1. Listening to Wagner makes me so uncomfortable. Even if I can separate his talent from his

antisemitic past, I can not separate my own self from the imagined fawning audience of Hitler and his followers. It feels as though I've become one of them.

Of course I don't believe in censoring his work by any means--just that there are some performers so intrinsically linked with a horrific place in history or views with which I can not countenance that it makes it very hard to appreciate them. Even more so than with actors, music brings all of that into the subconscious. That, to me, is why it is so important that musical performers who do not countenance Trump playing their music at his hate rallies need to fight hard to stop it. I was pleased to see the Prince estate administrators do so re: his playing of Purple Rain recently. I wish the Rolling Stones had done so earlier.

Nonetheless, I do listen to Wagner on occasion, but the experience is not particularly pleasant.

2. It's actually rather odd that Wagner became so beloved by the Nazis.

Sure, he was anti-Semitic. But most of his operas, including and especially the four operas that comprise Der Ring Des Nibelungen assert that love is more important than power, and will win out in the end.

4. And Democrats on the whole show evidence of exceeding capability in cultivating

and so containing the quality of love in their makeup. Their way of governance is a product of this 'trait'.

Love is more important than power.

The other party? I have not come in contact with one of them who encompassed selfless love for all of creation. They show a sorta love quality for others selectively, showing bias [and other demeaning natures].

3. I had awareness of his past, in addition to that, much of his music to me is

not pleasing to my ears or to my spirit.

This selection wasn't that harsh melodically, but I won't make it a practice to post any further of his.

Isn't it something that one can be bummed out by realizing an artist or figurehead condoning or even cozying up to atrocity.

I know many Jewish people. Acquaintances and in my extended family. I have a burdened heart for these brothers and sisters in humanity as I have for all of His crown of Creation who are or have been oppressively targeted and thus hurt.
