TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — This year's Native American $1 coin was released Monday.

Featuring the "Five Moons," Maria Tallchief, Marjorie Tallchief, Yvonne Chouteau, Rosella Hightower, and Moscelyne Larkin, the coin celebrates the legacy of achievement and inclusion the girls left behind.

Maria Tallchief, who was an Osage Nation Native American ballerina, is considered to be America's first prima ballerina and is noted for her lasting legacy in the art.

The coin is part of a multi-year series to recognize the important contributions made by Indian tribes and individual Native Americans to the development of the United States.
