This is a someday project for me as I don't know how to crochet.

And Jera Brandvig's blog (She is the fabric designer and also designs quilts/writes books - her friend designed the quilt pictured below):

(15,166 posts)Go get yourself some yarn and a crochet hook and learn the stitches needed to make that ASAP. Not someday, today.

(53,129 posts)find an online course. I taught myself to crochet using the little book when I was 12.

(8,180 posts)crocheted items but I am in love with this quilt - so someday.
Video in combination with a book and hands on in a knitting group definitely helped.

(2,681 posts)I crochet several rugs and throws. I moved on to knitting which I like much more. That was years ago when we lived in Alaska. Needed those warm sweaters year-round. Moved to Texas and I started sewing. Like this best of all. Sew all kinds of outfits for my doll-baby grandgirls. Now I quilt. I have 2 quilts cutout and ready to sew. Having fun getting my own fabric printed.

(2,681 posts)Way back in 70's I tried crochet, did three projects. a rug, a throw and a vest. Was easy to learn, went fairly fast, but I guess I just liked knitting better.
Didn't start quilting until about 5 year ago, I am really enjoying making quilts. Just finished my blue willow plate quilt top, waiting for backing fabric, then off to the quilt shop for quilting. Now collecting purple fabric, not sure of a pattern. I enjoy making my own designs. I work out the design and measurements and draw my patterns on 1"-1/4"grid paper. Always make a few sample blocks to be sure they look like my plan. Sometimes they don't and I go back to planning.
Half the fun (to me) is making my own designs and picking out the colors and prints. Quilting has taught me a lot about color and how to use it for best visual impact.
