Took my 12 string & did 3 songs. I never performed any of them before. I spent an hour or so before I went coming up with interludes/leads I could do where the guitar solo would be.
I did Don't Dream It's Over (Crowded House), Let It Rain (Clapton), and an unnamed instrumental I came up with a few months ago.
The others there were pretty good. One guy was a really good singer, but his guitar work was pretty basic.
One woman, taking it very seriously, brought her guitar & a Yamaha 88 key keyboard. She was just OK as a player, but a nice voice.
Some of the folks were planning on jamming together, but it was getting later than I wanted to be there.
One downside: The host did his own thing WAY too long. He played for over an hour before he brought his first guest up. I've hosted lots of jam nights, and we'd never have thought to go more than 15 minutes unless nobody else was ready yet. I figured I'd be home around 8:15. I didn't even start playing until 8:35.
I was this close to leaving without playing.
I stayed to hear 2 other people before I left, so I heard 5 others. I would have stayed longer if not for that guy sucking up 65 minutes.

Shame on the host for hogging so much time, though. Very selfish of him.

(70,829 posts)Open mic nights are for the guests. Mic hogs shouldn't be jam night hosts.
