1967, Soul singer, songwriter Otis Redding was killed in a plane crash, aged 26. Redding and his band had made an appearance in Cleveland, Ohio on the local Upbeat television show the previous day. The plane carrying Otis Redding and his band crashed at 3:28 pm into the icy waters of Lake Monona near Madison. Redding was killed in the crash along with members from the The Bar-Kays, Jimmy King, Ron Caldwell, Phalin Jones and Carl Cunningham. Trumpet player Ben Cauley was the only person to survive the crash.

...to die in plane accidents.
The crash that took Buddy Holly also took 2 others. Multiple people died in the Skynyrd crash.
Here's a list from Wikipedia with 40 names, and it doesn't include Bill Chase and his 3 band mates. (We actually bought our PA horns & 2 midrange cabinets from the estate auction Bill's wife held when we expanded our sound system. So I'm acutely aware of that incident.) It also doesn't include Maury Mulheisen, Jim Croce's gifted guitarist who died in the same crash as Jim.
So, it's at least 45 folks killed this way
