(93,098 posts)When I hear Hot Tuna, and Jorma singing, I see R Crumb cartoons when I close my eyes. Same with Dan Hicks.

It's been very windy for about eight of the last ten days, not much prcip, kind of warm at this end of the state. East of here, and not far, it's really nasty and very cold. I'll be okay with wind and not too cold.

I watched Ryan Hall's forecast yesterday, he does a ten day thing sometimes, and the whole east coast is getting drenched. I think the worst of it is down around Virginia and NC.
There's supposed to be a hard freeze behind it all, once it stops raining in a couple days. We have wind and clouds off and on but it's hovering around freezing. The rest of the week we might get daily highs in the low 40s. But we always have wind. It's the wind storms, constant 30- 40 mph with 70+ gusts. It gets loud.
Anyway, good thing you're situated on the hill like you are. Stock up on groceries and just stay home if it gets icy.
ETA: Ryan's forecast, made yesterday.

(28,518 posts)data on my basic online consumption vs. totally off line. On a sunny day, I collect a lot more power than I consume. When the batteries are charged, I dump the rest on the grid. About 500K watts of energy, monthly. For that privilege, I pay $30.00/month.

(93,098 posts)Is one of the better home set ups I've seen in a while. More people are installing solar and wind out here but we are still heavily dependent on coal, gas and hydro power.
I'm thankful that my being mindful of my footprint in my little hovel the power gawds have taken mercy on me and knocked $10 off my monthly bill (even pay), did it last year too. Part of it is due to the very warm temps so far and I didn't need the AC last summer all that much.

(28,518 posts)Like, upgrading power lines. Solar/Battery BU is a safe bet in my power future. Of course, I won't financially benefit, but my kids will.
