Music Appreciation
Related: About this forumThe Rolling Stones used AI to de-age themselves for a new single, making that a vanity project. I posted a GD thread
about it because I'd like to hear what DUers think of that use of AI
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100221240378
which I find disappointing.
Especially compared to music videos and live performances from the many older musicians who don't think they need that pretense.
I'm not going to post the video here - even though I don't consider AI used for de-aging quite the same as genAI used to create text, music and visual art - because the video disrupts what enjoyment I'd otherwise have had from the song. And the AI use even left me wondering if Mick might be using AI now for lyrics and music.

(114,627 posts)general view of AI when it comes to music and the artists it can potentially "rob" of their creative rights--likewise the consumers who may not know it was not created through a true human creative process. And that is generally a vehement dislike. That said, there was a country performer (Randy Travis? ) whose diseased physical state precludes him from performing but who had work in progress that he approved AI to complete using his voice. I may not have all those facts correct, but close. At any rate, I did not have an issue with that.
So, in keeping with that last point, I suppose when the artists involved ALL agree to its use AND openly and clearly indicate the AI inclusion, I am less disgusted about its use, but I still don't want it to become a "trend." In this case, it is more a one time "gimmick" for a band who, frankly has earned a lot of latitude given their longevity and the fierce loyalty TO and FROM their fans, so I'm not going to criticize their use of it in this instance.
