...on the 27th, I set up my recording system with 1 mic, and used line out to a cassette recorder, just as a reality check.
(I've got an old Walkman that still works & an aux in on my car stereo.)
Glad I did it.
I'm happy with my singing & guitar work but I was playing 3 of the songs way too fast.
I slowed them down & found it was easier to phrase & stylized.
I still don't care that much about the appearance (just a 40 minute opening set & I've headlined >2,000 gigs)but if I'm going to do it, I want it to he right.
The songs I've chosen really work on a 12 string.

(3,273 posts)I used to check my mix downs in my car. Always good to get another perspective!
Good luck and enjoy~~!!

(70,318 posts)The AKG mike isn't really designed to pick up signal from 6 feet away, but fidelity wasn't important.
I do the same a initial mixes of recordings.
Don't know if you've heard these but here's a recent example of my stuff.

(8,127 posts)To work on "rushing" (playing too fast) work with a metronome (or a reliable back-beat.) As Picasso said, you have to learn the rules (playing in time) in order to break the rules artistically.
BTW I've always found that recording myself was THE most frightening thing to do, so major kudos to you for your courage!

(70,318 posts)I just need to decide on a feel. There's always a phrase somewhere that is a tempo key. Just hear that phrase at the right pace & the rest will click.
Recording myself never bothers me.
They did a TV show dedicated to our club show. There were 4 cameras there the whole night, and I played to the cameras.
Hearing & seeing myself is a non-issue for me. I'm a ham.

(70,318 posts)Trying to balance the most poppy with the more inside stuff, and mixing those i'm doing for others with those i'm doing for me.
Now, i hope everyone enjoys those in the latter category, but if they don't, that's ok.
Some of them, one just has to do for their own enjoyment.
Doing them in this order: Tambourine Man, Plush, I Need To Know, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Have You Ever Seen The Rain, Time After Time, Lightning Crashes, Just Like Heaven.
I'm not changing that order. I'm not going to get into second guessing anything.
