(153,050 posts)I guess it must be inborn, 'cause I just look and whatever strikes my fancy is what gets photographed. It doesn't even matter what it is! If my eye likes it, then it's mine!

(3,931 posts)I am curious about the top photo. Its striking - what is it?
The lilies appear to me as a crowd of lovely French nuns as if from a childrens book, but I dont know exactly why. They made me smile.
A person could get lost in the spiraling heart of that sunflower, and I want to gather those smooth potatoes up and take them home.
CaliforniaPeggy
(153,050 posts)They're actually quite tiny but so beautiful. They don't usually bloom this time of year, but this lonely one is anyway.
I loved the lilies too! And the sunflower is amazing! I felt the same way about the potatoes, even though I have enough at home!
Thanks for your kind remarks, my dear Easterncedar!

CaliforniaPeggy
(153,050 posts)I'm thrilled you do! I had to photograph the calla lilies even though I have many times before.
I guess I'm addicted!

(95,721 posts)With odd shaped flowers. Callas are like a magnet! But they are a great subject with their smooth lines and texture and the shape is different so they catch your eye.
But I'm a flower nut, if it's a flower, look out I have to take a picture of that!

They remind me of this painting of Frida Khalo by her lover, Diego Rivera:
CaliforniaPeggy
(153,050 posts)Such an evocative painting!
And thank you for the etymology of the word alcatraces! Languages are so amazing.

(44,242 posts)In Mexican culture, calla lilies are a symbol of femininity, sensuality and sexuality. In Diego Rivera's paintings, calla lilies accompanied portraits of women to symbolize their sensuality and femininity.
The association of this flower with the prision of Alcatraz sheds a different twist to the word.

(42 posts)Thanks for the gorgeous photos. Everything looks so alive and vibrant. My wife and I used to live nearby in Playa del Rey and we miss that area very much.
CaliforniaPeggy
(153,050 posts)Playa del Rey is a beautiful part of LA County; I can bet you miss it. Sorry you had to leave.
I do these threads every week. Tuesday for the Manhattan Beach Farmer's Market, and Thursday for El Segundo.
Hope you can come by and see what's up!
