(99,466 posts)Wool Pendleton, they are really nice in cold temps. That reminds me, I need to get one, always wanted one, have to get my friend to go get one for me, I know the pattern I want.

(442 posts)How cold does it get at 7730' feet above sea level (do not see a heater of any type)?

(26,230 posts)The lookout is only staffed during the summer months, but it can still get cold. I have seen it down to around 32°F before. What is really cold is a stretch of a few days of rain and fog, with a near-constant temperature in the low 40s. Than is bone-chilling cold.

(442 posts)Those wonderful windows probably lose a great deal of heat at night too. Is the structure insulated in any way (just curious)? Do you have to move around up there just to keep the blood flowing and to stay alert?
You have an interesting job. I worked with lots of USFS employees as someone who did work for the state of MN on water quality. But we were pretty well frozen while wading through cold water, or trying to retrace our routes to recover forgotten car keys.

Beware of bears, mountain lions, and wolves. No country for old men!
