Saturday Horsies Today we look into the past. At our former farm and some of the horses who graced our pastures.

Last edited Sat Dec 13, 2025, 12:55 PM - Edit history (1)

R.T. boarded with us for nearly 15 years in his retirement. His initials stand for Royal Tardez.

He lived to be thirty-seven and a half and was buried on the farm.

Here's our granddaughter on RT.

Optimystic was another retired boarder.

Nicknamed Mystie by his owner, he liked to help out around the barn.

Mystic always grew a good winter coat.

For ten years we hosted horsemanship clinics at the farm. Typically riders and instructors
got together to discuss what riders wanted to get out of the clinic before starting.

Boarders (L-R) Mystic, Charlie Brown and Narj, watching riders at a clinic.

Clinic participants would warm up in the arena and then head out to the obstacle/trail course
that my wife Laurie built. Riders and horses were challenged by a wide variety of obstacles,
such as
The Pond —

The Big Jump Log —

And The Suspension Bridge. Over which most riders crossed like this —

but every once in a while someone would want to just get it over with —

We held a few clinics in which riders' horses learned how to track a "cow", pulled up and down a fenceline.

Clinics were infrequent; however, riders locally and from far away were drawn to the trail course. Often friends would make a reservation and have the whole course to themselves for as long as
they wanted to ride.

If you'd like to see more about the trail course and horsie photos, please check out my photo site at

If you click on "Albums", a page will appear, at the top of which in the far right corner will be
"View collections". Please click on that link to see eight albums of horses; including one about
the "Obstacle/Trail Horse-Course".
Thanks!
George

Did Laurie grow up around horses or is this an interest she pursued as an adult? I have met some horse people before and they are all absolutely dedicated to their animals.
