"There is currently no official word as to why this decision has been made".
"For almost 100 years, the magic of the holiday season has kicked off with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This year, the parade passes by for the 98th time, featuring its signature mix of whimsical elements and dazzling performances. This years official national broadcast on NBC will include performances from Death Becomes Her, Hells Kitchen and The Outsiders as well as the iconic Radio City Rockettes.
Established in 1924, the parade has been canceled only three times (1942, 1943 and 1944) since its inception. The event draws roughly 3.5 million spectators on the streets of New York City and over 50 million more who tune in nationwide. For so many Americans, watching the parade, from near or far, is just as much a Thanksgiving tradition as turkey and mashed potatoes."
***I guess there is No Miracle on 34th St in 2024. Maybe tRump threatened to shoot all of them and get away with it.

(32,234 posts)in my opinion. If ya cant walk or march in the street, youre not parade material. JMHO. CNN is doing the parade......having guests too, so not sure how im gonna enjoy that, will just have to see how they handle it. Just not gonna be the same without my husband anyway, so, dont really care.

(5,131 posts)CBS used to do less of that so we'd watch them. Then we'd watch the first football game and switch over to the dog show during the commercials. This will be the first year without her, and I echo your sentiment about it just not being the same.

(10,243 posts)I was questioning why the OP referred to it as the Christmas parade. Theres one float the last one that features Christmas. The point of the parade was to usher in the Christmas season, and specifically to do their shopping at Macys. But it was never called that, where other parades, in other cities, later in the season, are specifically called a Christmas parade.
