MARANA, AZ Two people are dead after two planes crashed Wednesday morning at an airport in southern Arizona.
Airport personnel have confirmed to Scripps News Group Tucson that the crash occurred at Marana Regional Airport, outside Tucson.
Marana Police Department confirmed both planes were occupied.
Scripps News Group Tucson has confirmed that two people died in the incident. The victims have not been identified.
MPD refers to the crash as an "aircraft collision."
Viewer-submitted photos show smoke in the direction of the airport.

Two planes have crashed at an airport in Arizona and left at least one person dead, police have confirmed.
Massive plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the crash site this morning as emergency service teams raced to the scene to investigate. The Marana Police Department later confirmed at least one person was killed in an "aircraft collision" involving two planes.
The force said: "The Marana Police Department is currently on-scene at the Marana Regional Airport located at 11700 W. Avra Valley Rd. in reference to an aircraft collision. There has been at least 1 confirmed deceased individual. Details are limited at this time. Media staging will be in the large dirt parking lot outside of the Marana Regional Airport. FAA and NTSB will be responding."

I do spend a lot of time here on the ground and don't like being at risk of airplane parts/fuel/fire. Marana Regional Airfield has way TOO many plane defugalities*
* one of the late spouse's weird words that sums up many bad situations.
