Walmart to pay 100% of associates' college tuition and books

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — On Tuesday, Walmart announced 100% of their associates' college tuition and books will be paid through their Live Better U (LBU) education program.

Starting August 16, the $1 a day fee will be removed for associates, making all education programs paid for by Walmart.

Thanks to the program, approximately 1.5 million part-time and full-time Walmart and Sam's Club associates in the U.S. can earn college degrees without the burden of college debt.

Walmart is committing to invest nearly $1 billion over the next five years in career-driven training and development.

1. That sounds wonderful, but do they have decent pay and medical insurance

Last time I looked (and I admit it was a while back) they were encouraging their employees to sign up for Medicaid because therapy was so low the employees would qualify.

3. At one time employees such as managers and assistant managers

salaries were lumped in with hourly employees to inflate the average.

Also - is $13.12/hour enough to be out of the Medicaid range? I have no idea. I just know that in some research I did on Walmart many years back (5+) they had lots of tricks to divert attention away from the low wages and lack of benefits.

They also had lots of accounting tricks to keep from paying state and local taxes, such that having a Walmart in town was almost always a cost to the city and state.

5. Wal-Mart Paid for My Ph.D.

When I was accepted to the Ph.D. program, I did not pay a dime for my degree, as the Walton Foundation covered the entire cost. No, I have never been employed at Wal-Mart, but I don't rail against them any more. They also gave us Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

6. My daughter started at WallyWorld last month. Night warehouse. $18.50 per hour.

Matching stock purchase and med. insurance... not great coverage but still.

Our husband has better coverage for her and the family.
