TONTITOWN, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) The Tontitown Police Department has responded to a viral video posted on social media of a man being forcefully arrested at his home in Tontitown.
According to a police statement, Tontitown police were contacted by a resource officer with Springdale Public Schools with a welfare concern and said a juvenile male went to school with a piercing in his left ear.
[...]
Officers returned to Sherlands home later after getting a probable cause arrest and when officers asked Sherland to step outside, he refused and stood in the doorway.
According to the video, Sherland was pushed back into the house, where then multiple officers held him against the wall and he was then arrested. The video finishes by showing Sherland being placed into the back of a police car.

Next time dont force your son down while chocking him and pierce his ear without permission. Maybe take the son away completely from the father forever.

(36,818 posts)and pierced his ear, the SOB deserves to be charged with child abuse.

(29,000 posts)No body art on anyone under 16? So many girls have their eyes pierced as babies. I got my ears pierced at 13 and I was late to the party.

(29,000 posts)So telling that hes being charged with body art crimes instead of, say, child abuse.
doc03
(36,818 posts)alter another person's body without their consent. I certainly don't think 5 cops should come and arrest someone for it though.
I mean the parents aren't doing it for the child, it is for themselves.

(62,265 posts)Stainless steel sewing needles, ice, alcohol, gold posts on the ear studs.
I think piercing of toddlers' ears is unnecessary, but usually a cultural thing. And at least the piercing isn't permanent if they decide to let it heal over.

(490 posts)Of the parents want. I find it frankly strange. Let kids have a damn childhood without weighting them down with any adulting.

(62,403 posts)... part. Feeling a little confrontational this morning are we?
There is contradiction in the cop's 'facts'. All this would have taken was a little meeting at the prosecutor's office or at the school, not a brawl at the house: particularly after the cops had already been to the house before on this specific issue.
If anything this demonstrates that co-operating with cops is a big mistake without a lawyer.
Did you listen to the video? Did you hear that kid? They needed a clearing of the issues, but they did not need that cop home invasion.
doc03
(36,818 posts)pierced his ear. When the cops came to the house the first time the parents wouldn't let the cops talk to him.
Then the second time after they arrest his dad the boy claims he wanted it. Which time was the boy telling the truth?
The first time, or the second time after the parents had a talk with him.

Right?
Investigate all claims of child abuse, but there was no need to raid the house. The man should have stayed mute when the first field visit was made and hired a lawyer. If the claims of abuse were credible, the boy should have been taken out of the house.
Screw that prosecutor. Screw those cops.

(12,943 posts)and father refused to cooperate - would not allow LE to talk to person that made complaint. Police then referred to DA for advice and direction.
You still aren't reading the account. Either that or 'cops bad' is the only narrative you're willing to see? (in this or any other encounter?)

(29,000 posts)Kid could have mentioned to his dad he wanted his ear pierced. Dad, a couple beers in the bag, agrees to help his son. After several attempts using other methods (icing the ear or whatever) the dad puts the kid in a headlock. Im not saying thats what happened but considering how little we know of this kid and his family dynamics, jumping to conclusions about abuse is premature.

(12,943 posts)the incident as a drunken attack by father. (which made it a mandatory 'reporting' incident for the school)

(12,943 posts)the conversation was reported to him/her. (which would seem to indicate that other individuals had heard this version) On top of which - kind of a stretch to postulate that the school officials just made up this incident out of whole cloth - for giggles?

(12,943 posts)and the second trip that township police have made to this residence. (which I think we all understand)
I'm perfectly willing to entertain the idea that kid goes over to school and lies out his ass about what actually transpired at home. (whether either to avoid some consequence or accounting, or maybe even in an effort to entertain and spin a good tale for his loser buddies) Kids do stupid shit and tell tall tales all the damned time.
What I don't countenance - and think is just as implausible as hell - is that the school made up this wild tale - and forwarded it on to LE - just because it was a slow day in Podunkville. The kid may well have changed his tune. And may well have been exaggerating or prevaricating in the first telling. But the original 'telling' over at the school - came from him - just sure as shootin'. And that 'telling' - along with a sizeable portion of father's belligerence - leads in a straight line to father's detention and arrest.
