https://abc7news.com/senator-dianne-feinstein-dead-obituary-san-francisco-mayor-cable-car/13635510/Her career was one of many firsts. She was the first woman president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the first woman mayor of San Francisco, and one of two of the first women elected to the U.S. Senate from California.
"Dianne Feinstein, right from the start, was an icon for women in politics," said former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Senator Chuck Schumer adds, "She's a legend. A legend in California as the first woman senator. A legend in the Senate. She was the leader on so many different issues."

Maybe too soon, but I'm hoping for appointment of Maxine Waters by Gov. Newsom.

(96,875 posts)1. Governor Newsom indicated he would only appoint an interim replacement to fill the position until
the 2024 election decides the new Senator.
Represenative Maxine Waters strong voice in the House may not make her the best interim candidate, especially with everything going on in the House right now.
I suspect it will be someone not currently in Congress.
I wonder if Barbara Boxer would be willing to step in for the short term?
She was a great Democrat.
