Fairfield adds two measures to November ballot aimed to generate local funding for essential services
The Fairfield City Council has voted to place a pair of measures on the November ballot designed to adjust local taxes for visitors staying in Fairfield and businesses operating within the city.
Fairfield city officials say the money would be aimed at essential services, including pothole and street repairs, fire protection, disaster preparedness, and neighborhood police patrols.
The first, Measure L: Business License Modernization and Simplification, is a local initiative designed to modernize and simplify the structure of the citys current business license ordinance and change current tax rates.
Fairfields business license ordinance was last updated in 1984 and includes a complicated structure of 24 tiered rates for different types of businesses, said officials. The structure is difficult for new businesses to navigate and a lot has changed in the 40 years since it was last updated, including new industries and dramatic changes to how people work.
