25 loose Great Danes captured near where California walker was fatally mauled
Northern California woman was found dead, apparently mauled by dogs, and investigators discovered about 25 Great Danes running loose in the area.
A resident reported the death to the Butte County sheriffs office on Thursday, Aug. 8. The body was found on a dirt road after Davina Corbin, 56, had reportedly failed to return from a walk near her home in a forested area east of Lake Oroville, the sheriffs report said.
An autopsy noted numerous bite marks and attributed the death to an attack by domestic dogs.
When sheriffs deputies and detectives went to search a home near where the body was found, they determined that about 25 Great Danes were loose. They spent the entire day capturing the dogs, the sheriffs report said; the last two were caught on Friday.
The animals were given to county animal control.
Corbins clothing was sent to a lab for DNA analysis that might indicate which dogs attacked her, and the ongoing investigation is attempting to determine the circumstances of the encounter, the sheriffs office said.

(34,069 posts)A neighbor on Blackhawk Trail told KCRA that the pack of Great Danes has been a problem for years. "They came across the road here at me," Max Hecker said. "So I jumped in the car and left." He said that he and other neighbors called Butte County Animal Control numerous times to complain about the dogs, including on the day before the deadly attack. "Nothing has been done about it until now," Hecker told the outlet. "... That's a tragedy that should never have happened."
