Election Results Bring Tax Increases to Butte County and Chico

CHICO, Calif. – The impact of Measure H is set to take effect on April 1, bringing a rise in sales tax across Butte County. The county’s tax rate will increase from 7.25% to 8.25%, while in Chico, the rate will climb from 8.25% to 9.25%.

Consumers are already taking notice, particularly when it comes to big-ticket items.

Reporter Bethany recently visited a local electronics store to examine the effects of the tax hike.

“This television is priced at $5,299,” she said. “Currently, the sales tax adds an additional $437 to the total cost. But come Tuesday, with the tax increase, buyers will pay an extra $53 on top of that.”
