Tribute from Senator Aguilar

Irene Aguilar is a Colorado state senator; she is also a practicing physician. She worked closely with both of the senators who were just put out of office, and just posted this tribute on her Facebook page:

As many of you know, I came to politics because of a desire to fundamentally change the way we finance health care in our state. I was tired of hearing elected officials tell me that my ideas were not "politically viable". I remember wondering why I worked to get them elected if they had their eyes on their next prize and not on doing the job they were put in office to do.

I am honored to have served with Senate President John Morse and Senator Angela Giron, two great leaders who exemplified Martin Luther King Jr.'s ideal of doing something because "it is right". They have paid a great price but the people of Colorado are better because of their courage.

Progressives have to be constantly diligent in our state.

The recall elections of Morse and Giron were depressing, but we can never stop fighting for common sense legislation that protects our children and our health.
