They finally aired it this morning. Our segment begins a little after three minutes in.
A bit disappointing that they spent so much time interviewing teaparty supporters of the idea; silver lining could be that doing so demonstrates the kind of thinking required for such a push. Nor did they show that supporters are overwhelmingly older whites angry about not getting their way in all things at all times.
Also left out of their coverage was the information that this move was instigated by the county commissioners, a legally dubious move on their part; their job description does not give them that authority. And the commishes have been less than honest when discussing the expense of this effort; they claim that they haven't spent any county money or time on this (thinly technically true), but they have assigned research tasks to county employees who are entirely paid by county taxpayers.
Yet another layer: The county council is tasked with overseeing the county commissioners. Unfortunately, one of the council members now heads up the 51st state movement and is in no position to provide the necessary impartial oversight.
It's a mess.

(27,343 posts)There's a lovely 4th generation Colorado rancher and wife, and she talks about people receiving income from THEIR mineral rights and that's their right, and blah, blah, freedom. I wonder about the water supply that will be contaminated in a state that is semi arid where drinking water and water for agriculture is often scarce. As long as the "riches" are there, it's ok to destroy the environment to get them and if you try to stop us, well, we'll just form our own state... wah, wah...

(16,066 posts)The rancher and wife (Chuck and Ronnie Belle Sylvester) also "starred" in the faux-documentary Frackland that purports to answer Josh Fox's Gasland. They have lots of acreage with lots of fracking wells and they get lots of royalty checks from the oil and gas industry. They've got theirs, so the rest of us can just go to hell.

(2,012 posts)This Roni Bell Sylvester has been all over the net and facebook spewing lies and hate against Dem reps and Obama. What is it with the media that they feel they must present people like this to be "fair". This includes the Denver Post which bends over backwards to back big oil, gas, and fracking. Except FOX of course which always says they're fair and balanced and makes no pretense of being so.
Reminds me that CNN will be showing Pandora's Promise a pro-nuclear propaganda piece tomorrow night. They have been flooded with complaints demanding that the other side of this argument be aired but so far to no avail. Fukushima just had another 5.2 earthquake which caused more radioactive water to leak into the Pacific, all the way to California. Where but on Al Jazeera did we hear this "trivial" news.
