Council approves 19 Westerly charter questions to go on ballot

WESTERLY — The Town Council on Monday approved placement of Westerly’s 19 proposed charter revision questions on the Nov. 5. Ballot.

Last year, the Advisory Charter Commission worked for months on reviewing the charter and coming up with a final report, 124 pages long, that reflects changes the commission incorporated after a public hearing as well as an initial meeting with the council to present a draft version.

The ballot also will contain a question asking local voters to approve an $18 million bond for upgrades to town roads and sidewalks.

In addition, the ballot will include financial impact statements for the road bond item and a charter question that, if approved, would require that the full text of proposed ordinance amendments be printed as part of the public notice advertisements placed in local newspapers.
