Delmarva power wants raise electricity, gas rates

A series of public meetings this week will give Delawareans an opportunity to comment on proposed price increases for power.

Newark-based Delmarva Power is asking the state for permission to raise its rates by 5.8 percent for electricity and 8.8 percent for natural gas, according to the Delaware Public Service Commission.

The company made the request in August, initially seeking an additional $37.2 million in annual revenue. Last week, it amended the proposal upward, and now is asking for more than $42 million extra from ratepayers.

If allowed, the average Delaware home each month would pay an additional $5.42 for electricity and nearly $4 more for natural gas.
