D.C. area should expect mild first half of February before possible weather chaos

The second half of the month could suddenly turn cold and stormy, but confidence that far out is low.

After our coldest January in 11 years, February is set to start warm and, at times, wet. But the weather may turn cold and volatile during the second half of the month.

By the time the month ends, we project an average temperature of 39 to 43 degrees — which is near or a little above a normal 40 degrees. Precipitation (from rain and melted snow) should be about 2.5 to 3.5 inches, which is near or a little above a normal 2.62 inches.
