Summer storms are brewing in the D.C. region, with the threat of damaging winds and large hail on Tuesday afternoon triggering a Severe Thunderstorm Watch across the region. Here’s what you need to know.
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8 p.m. Tuesday that covers most of the D.C. region, reaching from Prince William County in Virginia, to Howard and Anne Arundel counties in Maryland. The weather service said any storms that develop could produce strong winds of 70 mph and isolated bouts of ping-pong size hail.
7News First Alert Meteorologist Mark Peña said the showers are slow-moving, and a Flood Watch has also been issued for much of the region till 8 p.m. for the potential of flash flooding.
