New polling in Florida shows almost 70% of voters favor Amendment 4, which would enshrine abortion access in the state constitution after the Republican legislature and Governor Ron Desantis passed a near-total abortion ban earlier this year.
According to the survey of 774 likely voters done by the University of North Floridas Public Opinion Research Lab (PORL), only 23% of respondents came out against the ballot measure, while another 8% said they weren't sure. Like similar measures in Kansas and Ohio, the favorability of Amendment 4 is outperforming Democratic candidates, meaning Republicans and independents are also in support.
The 70% support will be key as a 60% vote in favor is needed to pass the measure in November.
The Amendment 4 campaign has also petitioned the state supreme court to strike the current financial impact statement for the amendment from voter information materials, wherein they claim the DeSantis administration falsely states the measure will negatively impact the state budget.
