Temporary injunction granted to block GRU ballot proposal

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A judge granted a temporary injunction this evening over a motion to block Gainesville’s GRU ballot proposal.

Gainesville’s referendum is still on the ballot, but even if it passes, it cannot take effect until Judge George Wright makes a final ruling on it.

This decision does not rule on whether the proposal is lawful.

The amendment has voters deciding if oversight of the utility should be given back to the city rather than under the governor-appointed GRU authority board.
