It’s the highest number of any month in records dating to 2012 and up 22.7% from a year earlier.Florida recently saw the highest number of homes listed for sale in the past 13 years, with more than 172,000 homes available on the market, a new analysis shows.
January ended with 172,209 homes for sale, the highest number of any month in records dating to 2012, according to real estate brokerage firm Redfin. That’s up 22.7% from a year earlier.
Redfin said the contributing factors may be:
— Condo owners are facing higher costs due to new safety regulations in Florida.
— More homes are being built in Florida than in many other states.
— Homeowners are selling property because they can’t keep up with insurance costs.
Inventory is a measure of the number of homes for sale on the last day of the month, said Redfin spokeswoman Angela Cherry.
“With so many options for buyers to choose from, a lot of homes for sale are sitting on the market for months at a time, causing stale inventory to pile up,” Redfin said in a report Thursday. “Listings are also piling up because homebuyer demand has been cooling; pending home sales in Florida fell 9.3% year over year in January.”

Looks like people might be cooling on the thought of moving to the Free State of Florida.

(36,870 posts)JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is deciding if disciplinary actions will be implemented against one of its deputies following a public comment on a social media site, according to a report by our sister station News4JAX in Jacksonville.
This comes after that employee, Cpl. Gregory Suchy, posted a comment underneath an Instagram video that shows what appears to be a man who is homeless throwing a rock at a vehicle. The comment read: “We need like a 3 day open season on the homeless. No bag limit.”
