Are there crocodiles in Florida? Watch as one fights an alligator in a park

An epic battle between a crocodile and an alligator took place on a Florida sidewalk last week.

The fight, apparently over a prime basking spot, happened March 19 near the Shark Valley Observation Tower in the Florida Everglades.

In a video, captured by Taylor Bonachea, the reptiles can be seen biting and snapping at each other amid hisses and growls.

As the alligator appears to try to escape the situation, the crocodile follows and repeatedly attacks, chomping at the alligator's head.

Maybe the gator was messing with the croc's bicycle...(you have to watch the video)...

There have been confirmed accounts of at least 14.5 foot crocs in Florida so that they manage to coexist at all with alligators is pretty amazing.

There's a long stretch of road between Florida City and Key Largo. It's called the 18 mile stretch. If you're driving back up from the Keys towards Miami there is or was a "Crocodile Crossing" sign on the north bound side of the road. I used to play in bar bands down in the keys back in the 90s. We were coming back up from one of our gigs and I saw a crocodile just sitting there basking on the side of the road. Needless to say, we did not stop to say hello.
