Related: About this forumRelative moved to Boise, so visited Boise for the first time.
We were driving around so they could show me the place. While taking in the scenery outside the city, we drove through a community called Hidden Springs. It looks like some kind of Stepford community -- all the houses are identically spotless with perfect landscaping, perfect lawn, etc. No people walking around, though. It gave me a creepy feeling. What's the deal with Hidden Springs?

(52 posts)It's not far from where I live, used to be in my legislative district so I know a few people who live there- I've always felt that Stepford feeling you describe when I go there. It's fairly friendly for Dems who go door-knocking there unlike most of Ada county outside of Boise.

(9,775 posts)It's a "planned" community like many others with HOA covenants that govern the type of architecture, paint colors, landscaping, etc. And like most newer large-scale subdivisions it's a "bedroom" community where most of the adult residents are away at work during the day, while the kids are at school. It doesn't feature a large retail or shopping area, so most of the residents will drive in to Boise to do their shopping. They have a mercantile business that serves as a community meeting place where you can order decent bistro food, sip a couple brews, and dance to live music in the evenings. My wife and I have driven out there a few times and I can assure you the folks there seemed quite normal once they actually materialize. Having said that I wouldn't care to live there, not because it's "creepy" but more due to it's isolation from things of interest and a lack of character.

(19,288 posts)But it looks like a movie set. I find it fake and creepy.
It gave me an uneasy feeling like a cult could live there with the same requirement for income bracket, religion, political views, and attractiveness and fitness levels.
(Not saying it really does) It looks perfect.
Truly like a Stepford Village.
