Bloomington sees higher than expected early voter turnout ahead of Election Day
BLOOMINGTON (25News Now) - Bloomington election officials are reporting higher than expected voter turnout ahead of the upcoming election, with early voting and vote by mail numbers already surpassing past consolidated elections.
As of now, 11% of registered voters have already cast their ballots through early voting or vote by mail. Election officials said they anticipate that number will likely double by Election Day.
“These are the people who are going to raise your taxes, who are going to decide where the tax money that you’ve given has been spent. So, to say, ‘oh, this one’s not important.’ It’s kind of a misnomer because you’re going to be impacted much greater locally,” said Luke Stremlau, executive director of the Bloomington Election Commission.
Thursday marks the last day that voters can request a mail-in ballot to be sent through the postal service. After Thursday, ballots must be picked up in person at the election office and returned through a designated drop box.
