Man arrested on assault charge at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital
Bloomington police arrested Michael L. Weddle, 30, of Morgantown, Sunday morning after Weddle reportedly became violent and unruly at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Police received a call at 7:58 p.m. Saturday that a man who had been transported to the hospital for treatment was being aggressive and noncompliant, Sgt. Cody Forston said. Prior to officers arriving, Weddle had reportedly grabbed the wrist of a female employee, balled up his fist and acted as if he was going to hit her. The employee fled the room, and Forston said the door shut and locked behind her.
At the time of officers arrival, the suspect had reportedly grabbed a stand used to hold IV drip bags and was attempting to break a window. He had also spat at employees through a crack in the window and door, officials said, and the suspect then seized an oxygen tank and continued assaulting the door.
Based on prior behaviors, the officers thought he might try to use the oxygen tank against them, Forston said.
