Community protests deportations at Gary airport: "Ban ICE, not people."

Chanting "no ban, no wall, justice for all," protesters gathered Friday morning to vent their frustration over the use of the Gary/Chicago International Airport for deportation of immigrants.

"We want this airport to be a clean airport," said Ruth Needleman, one of the organizers of the protest. "This should be a friendly place where people can fly, where people can get jobs, where we are not deporting people whose main crime is wanting to be with their families."

Dozens of protesters convened in front of the airport holding signs targeting Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and the immigration policies of President Donald Trump's administration, including a few that read "No Deportation," "Resist" and "No Wall." In addition to the signs, two people came carrying Mexican and Puerto Rican flags, respectively.

Organizers led the group in chanting opposition to recent deportations: "Ban ICE, not people."
