Marshalltown middle school renovation on November ballot

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — Voters in Marshalltown will decide this November whether to spend $57 million to renovate an aging school.

The Marshalltown School Board approved a referendum on Monday night to put the measure on the November ballot. The referendum will cover part of the $100 million price tag to fix up Miller Middle School.

The board also approved an additional $66 million SAVE bond for the project, which does not need public approval. The SAVE bond is a funding stream formerly known as the local option sales and services tax for school infrastructure. A small portion of that money will go to other projects in the district.
