DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau) - The Iowa Senate Monday voted to shield pesticide companies from cancer lawsuits.
Chemical giant Bayer has paid out billions in damages due to lawsuits over glyphosate, the weed killer commonly known as Roundup.
Iowa has the second highest cancer rate in the nation according to the Iowa Cancer Registry.
Democrats say the bill serves to protect corporate profits, rather than the health of Iowans.
Sen. Mike Zimmer, (D-LeClaire) said during debate, “This bill does nothing to protect our farmers. The farmer and their heirs should not have to sell the farm to pay for medical bills related to this product.”
If you get cancer and are on Medicaid, you need to get out there and work 80 hours a month. Perhaps schedule this work around your chemotherapy!
