Hodgenville man charged in Capitol riot
A Hodgenville man became the second area resident arrested and charged for reportedly taking part in the January Capitol riot in Washington D.C.
Kurt Ernest Peterson, 65, was arrested Wednesday morning for his role in the Jan. 6 riot, the FBI announced, after he was arrested by federal officials. Peterson is charged with obstructing an official proceeding, destruction of government property and entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, according to the FBI.
Peterson was expected to make an appearance Wednesday in federal Western District Court in Louisville. He is being lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center and a bond status was unavailable as of Wednesday afternoon.
Peterson joins Michael Sparks of Cecilia with charges resulting from the events of Jan. 6. Sparks was arrested Jan. 16. Sparks and Peterson are among at least 16 Kentuckians charged in the attack on the Capitol, according to media reports.
