Bevin answers ACLU's lawsuit and says blocking followers on social media within his rights

Gov. Matt Bevin is firing back at two Kentuckians suing him over blocked social media accounts, arguing they don't have the constitutional right to hijack his posts with off-topic spam.

“The First Amendment does not give anyone the right to a heckler’s veto,” reads the response from Bevin attorney Chad Meredith filed last week in U.S. District Court.

The ACLU of Kentucky filed a federal lawsuit in late July on behalf of Mary Hargis of Morehead and Drew Morgan of Louisville that claims their constitutional rights were violated when they were blocked from engaging in political speech on Bevin's social media accounts.

Responding to the suit's request to unblock accounts of Hargis, Morgan and roughly 600 others, Meredith wrote Bevin’s social media accounts are not “traditional public fora” such as parks or streets and don’t give the public “unfettered, indiscriminate” access.
