Reviewing my rep....
Hi XXX, thanks for the info about the current budget upcoming vote. It is near impossible for us taxpayers out here to determine: A. what the issue consists of .and B. who is practicing intentional deception. I get the idea it is the same for you folks up there.
From what you told me, and what I have pieced together :
1. The governor submits his balanced budget, as required, at the first of the year; January.
2. Dem's are in control and do not address the budget or enter negotiations, or propose alternatives until late in the session. Reason: delay is politically advantageous
3. Dem's submit/pass a budget with some of the following attributes:
a. It has a $33.75 million dollar hole. In order to balance the dems promise to try and find the 33.75M over the next two years by reviewing operations across state government. If they fail to find it the promise . just becomes unfulfilled and will likely be filled by some sort of tax increase somewhere. That is not responsible fiscal management.
b. It has a 40 million dollar hole. In order to balance the budget the dems promise to try to find 40M by .repealing or reducing economic development incentives, exemptions and credits. Those of us out here on the street call that a tax increase .BUT .the incredible part is that the 40M does not exist. How in the world can the Dem's take credit for something that does not exist? That is an acceptable practice with Dems; it is unacceptable in my household.
c. The handling of the vote for the legislatures, budget initiatives is best characterized by:
One, Rep. Corey Wilson, R-Augusta, even shouted from the floor to ensure roll call was kept open long enough by House Speaker Mark Eves, D-Berwick, so all representatives some literally running into the chamber of the House could get to their seats in time to vote.
Wilson later said he was shocked and disappointed over what he saw as Eves attempt to hurry the process in hopes some Republicans would miss the vote.
d. This speaks for itself:
Meanwhile, the committee, which is chaired by Democratic Senator Dawn Hill and Representative Peggy Rotundo, created a new line item in the budget backed by $200,000 for a college aspirations program that only serves one county Androscoggin, which Rep. Rotundo represents a portion of.
e. The committee also removed the entire $3 million proposed by DOE for targeted school improvement, all $3 million for the development of Career and Technical Education (known as CTE) industry standards and $5 million for the implementation of landmark educator effectiveness rules enacted with bipartisan support last legislative session.
That is as far as I have progressed in my understanding to date.
The only thing I fully understand is that anybody that supports this legislative budget also supports the tactics, character, and behavior of those who built it. That support is offensive and insulting to this taxpayer.
