I want to share an embarrassing moment.

With Labor Day weekend approaching, we have a lot of summer tourists. I was working at a Community Dinner and a nice out-of-state lady said "I cannot believe what I heard on the news about your Governor." She continued to express her sadness for the people of Maine. A man, who I assume was probably her husband, walked up and said "How can you be sad for the people, they were the idiots that elected him twice." Now, the man had a point. It was a majority of the citizens of Maine that elected him twice. I could not come up with any response so I just kept my mouth shut and disappeared into the crowd.

We have a couple of hundred politicians here worse than your governor and they are still held in high regard. Crap, we have Louie Gohmert and Terrible Ted Cruz, plus totally insane Dan Patrick (just Google him) and Greg Abbott. Our Attorney General is under indictment, but only because he tried to fleece other rich Republicans in the state!

I certainly did not vote for CC, but enough did that we're stuck with him for the full eight years. Go figure...

I know there were 7 on the ballot for his first race and he "won" with 37% of the vote. A clear majority didn't elect that doofus, he just benefited from a complicated ballot and idealism that had a lot of Mainiacs convinced they could safely vote for a splinter party.

Maybe it's taken 2 terms of that oaf to convince enough of them that they'd better switch to realpolitik mode and take what they can get from the opposing major party.

That statement is incorrect.

2010: In a 5-Candidate election: Lepage received 37.6% of popular vote.

2014: In a 3-Candidate election: Lepage received 48.2% of popular vote.

The distinction is an important part of the story.
