It seems that many Mainers have 2 or more nationalities in their bloodline:

From ancient times Irish society was organised around traditional kinship groups. These “clans” traced their origins to larger pre-surname population groupings such as Uí Briúin in Connacht, Dál gCais in Thomond, Eóghanachta in Munster, Uí Néill in Ulster , and Fir Domnann in Leinster. Within these larger groupings there tended to be one clan who through war and politics became more powerful than others for a period of time and the leaders of some were accorded the status of royalty in Gaelic Ireland. Some of the more important clans to achieve this power were Ó Conor in Connacht, Ó Brien in Thomond, MacCarthy in Desmond, Ó Neill of Tir Eógain in Ulster and Kavanagh in Leinster. The largely symbolic and somewhat mythological role of Ard Rí or High King tended to rotate among the leaders of the main royal clans.

I have English ,welsh, Irish and French at least.

1. Due to repeated invasions

Anybody from the UK or Ireland will more than likely have a mixed heritage. Couple that with migration to America along with Italians, Greeks, Germans, etc. and you may well have an even more mixed set of DNA.

In my family, our ancestors settled in Iowa in 1863, leaving County Kilkenny. One of my sisters did the family tree thing and it turns out we're a bunch of mutts with every nationality you mentioned plus some.

5. Just found out my Scottish ancestors

Were from the Gordon Clan. That's 25% of me. The rest is German and Austrian.

7. Almost all of the above...

French (Quebec), Scots-Irish. No English that I know of. The Quebequois element supposedly includes some native American, but the family has never been too certain of that, but I've always thought it must be. On the other side, Rusyn (old Ukrainian).

In other words, a mutt like most Americans. The mongrel breed that defeated Hitler's pure master race.
