UMaine students sing Elvis song to anti-gay protester

A man protesting against LGBT rights earlier this week at the University of Maine during the school’s Coming Out Week celebrations was met with a counter-protest: an a capella song.

The unidentified man, holding a sign printed with Bible verses about sexual immorality, had been standing in front of the Memorial Union on campus for some time on Monday.

A UMaine student posted several videos of other students engaging with the protester, including one of students singing an a capella, harmonized rendition of Elvis Presley’s “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You.”

Coming Out Week at UMaine is inspired by National Coming Out Day, which is held each Oct. 11. It celebrates LGBT liberation, encouraging LGBT people to not live in the shadows anymore, and openly embrace their sexuality.
