Maine
Related: About this forumThinking of a Road Trip to Maine.
Searsport sounds like an interesting place, but there seem to be a LOT of cool places.
I dislike crowds, and I want to be near the ocean, but other than that pretty much open to suggestions.
Any ideas?

(13,486 posts)Off the beaten track..... Old Orchard Beach. It is an amusement park throwback to, looks like the 1940's. And its right on the ocean.
Maybe more, later.

I've got my trusty road atlas here and will look it up.

About 2 mile walk with a spectacular view at every turn of the path.
Ogonquit lobster pound.
, choose your own lobster.
Acadia National Park.
Before you get to Maine, Portsmouth NH harbor cruise.

(8,387 posts)It's a broad beach which connects to an islet during low tide. Lots of tidal pools and room to spread out. It's a unique experience.
One thing about Maine geography is that the coastline is a series of long rocky outcrops. So, unlike places where you can essentially drive along the coast from town to town, you do have to make some decisions about which coastal areas to visit.
If you really don't like crowds, skip Commercial St. in Portland.

(51,308 posts)My knowledge of Maine is not great. I've heard of Mount Katahdin and a few other places.
I know there's moose and bear.

(4,385 posts)They are both beautiful towns on the ocean. Portland is a very cool city...lots of great restaurants and the Portland Head Light Lighthouse and Museum is really beautiful. I would avoid Old Orchard Beach.
