Snowe and McKernan.....wtf happened to them?

In the late 80's I spent a day with Senator Snowe building a community playground in Dexter, Maine. Best community event ever. Anyways, Ms. Snowe was assigned to my workgroup and she was a trooper. Did a 10 minute vid/photo spot, but then worked 5 hours moving dirt, cutting boards, drilling holes. and driving screws. We had some interesting chats. I left impressed.

Then she married John McKernan - the Tom Brady of Republican Governers - and then they went into witness protection. Too bad. Margaret Chase Smith and Bill Cohen wonder what happened?

The Senator felt like DC was becoming dangerous when she left. Seems like she just wanted to be a private citizen after serving.

And I remember Margaret Chase Smith, I met her when I was a kid, had some political figures in the family, some in the judicial realm so gatherings included some interesting guests.

Her 'Sense of the Senate' speech was a Hall of Congressional Fame moment.

Fifth grade without knowing about that. She was also something of a model for women in Congress. And Bella Abzug.

We could do with a few of these types nowadays.

And what states will treat them as Americans with full rights to their body autonomy?

Was in Margret Chase Smith elementary. She would stop by occasionally and visit.

I think I met her at a couple campaign house parties, like at a clam bake or something. One of my cousins was involved in the Maine Supreme Court and I think she came to some event when he was appointed or elected, can't recall which, I was a kid.

But recall meeting her. I went to Nathaniel Hawthorne School but that guy never showed up. It was half a block away from a house that Harriet Beecher Stowe lived in, tough.

New England has some of the richest history in the country.
