I often think that some people are so sure they have the answer that they can't see beyond the end of their nose:
Taxation Hero: Exxon Mobil Pays $3 In Taxes For Every $1 In Profit
."...Thats right, since its emergence as a unified company, Exxon Mobil has paid governments around the world more than $1 trillion. Thats more than double its net cash flow over the same period and almost three times its profits of $352 billion.
Think about what this means: For every dollar in profits it earns for its shareholders, Exxon Mobil earns nearly three dollars for governments.
Good article from Forbes and skewers the progressives assault on businesses"
I got this in the rights forum- now the upbeat side is the business is making33%profit
or $352billion in profit is one big hunk of change
but the real deal is how much does it cost you the taxpayer for these oil companies to make money for your gas to ride your butt around?
wars, graft, corruption appears to all fall into their portfolio

"
To put it in perspective, a local saw mill pays property taxes every year whether they make a profit or not. The same is true for a hardware store, car dealer or bakery. During the lean years Old Town Canoe paid its property taxes. They adapted. Wooden canoes are still made in Maine, but there are thousands of kayaks made for every wooden canoe."
so here we have two people from the same party with different views.
the real answer is that without taxes we probably wouldn't have a literate society.
you see if you read the bible taxes have existed since man formed communities.
And their has always been those trying to dodge theirs knowing full well that their neighbor would have to pick up the slack.
I guess humans aren't perfect!

(53,475 posts)2. Did the article mention that it's OUR oil they're drilling, not Exxon's? We should make more...
... than they do on it. It belongs to us.
Consider also, that Norway gets four times the royalty payment for a barrel of oil than does the US. Why is that?

(3,880 posts)3. CONSIDER
CONSIDER THAT WE WOULDN'T BE BEHOLDEN TO BIG OIL IF WE HAD STARTED WEANING OFF IT WHEN IT WAS FIRST SUGGESTED 50 YEARS AGO. CONSIDER WHO RAN FOR PRESIDENT THAT CAME FROM AN OIL FAMILY! NO NOT BUSH -HE' WAS JUST A FRONT COMPARED TO THE FAMILY WHO OWNED A BLOCK IN DOWNTOWN NEW YORK!
EVEN IKE SEE THE FUTURE AND SUGGESTED WAYS TO AVOID THE PROBLEMS WE ARE HAVING.
EVERY OUNCE OF ENERGY WE PRODUCE THAT DOESN'T USE FOSSIL FUEL WILL BUY US A FEW SECONDS TO COME UP WITH AN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCE TO HOLD OUR CIVILIZATION TOGETHER.
WHAt good is wealth if you have nothing to spend it on? The worst is yet to come.
for our youth have lost their skill for survival with out an energy source. And their will not be time to learn when the wheels stop turning.
