Massachusetts
Related: About this forumThe Republican Party has been defeated in the Bay State.
All that's left is a mop up operation.
90% of the State Senate is Democratic, 82% of the House.
There is no party infrastructure.
And Romney, who campaigned for Governor as a moderate then turned into an insane person, has left a horrible stench around what's left of the party.
Scotty Brown only had his moment in the spotlight because of disillusioned Dems avoiding the polls, and a brief surge of Tea Party enthusiasm. Those won't happen again, at least for some years.
Now Brown's staying home rather than engaging again in a battle that he'll surely lose.
It'll be interesting to see what happens next.

(8,821 posts)Scott Brown might have a great future as . . . well, maybe an underwear model?

(8,821 posts)If you run with the Tea Party, you gotta pour some of their tea.

(47,555 posts)We've pretty much gotten rid of the Republican party in CA, too. All high statewide elective offices are held by Dems, and Dems have a plurality in both houses of the legislature. And voila! Suddenly, we have a balanced budget after years and years of huge deficits.

(34,589 posts)Massachusetts is similarly fiscally sound. We actually have a lower-than-average state tax burden, yet we receive excellent state services.

(21,020 posts)as speculation, anyway, that Scott Brown may be considering a run for Governor to replace Deval Patrick.
If he does, and if he ends up pulling the same thing he did running for the Senate, he could conceivably run as a Republican embracing Independent values. It will be interesting to see what happens as time goes on.
In any case, I have mixed feelings about John Kerry becoming SoS.
I'm glad for him, but I really wanted him to stay on in the Senate for a very long time. Yes, I am selfish...

(1,341 posts)Right now, no well-known democrat has announced.
Scotty has about a 40% sychophantic voter following who
still believe he is just an average Joe who is "independent".
I think he has > 50% chance of winning for now. Makes
me wanna puke, I tells ya.
