Hunt for COVID-19 vaccine takes Michiganders to other states: 'They're desperate'

(Detroit Free Press) Jodi Schumaker cried while she drove north on Interstate-75 through Kentucky on Tuesday afternoon, feeling defeated as she headed home to Michigan without getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

Her hopes had been crushed by bad weather that delayed coronavirus vaccine shipments all over the U.S., including the delivery to the Walmart store in Mississippi where she and her husband had appointments Monday to get shots.

"I just want to get back home in our bubble, safe again until I can find yet another place to get vaccinated," said Schumaker, 53, of Independence Township.

Schumaker's hunt for a coronavirus vaccine is centered almost entirely on her husband, David, who is 60, paraplegic, has diabetes, high blood pressure, and congestive heart failure. ....................(more)

1. I'd suggest people check with Meijer, if they have any in their part of the state

I pre-registered on Monday, got a text on Wednesday and my first Pfizer jab, yesterday morning. They've already scheduled me for my 2nd jab on March 18. There were lots of people, there, but everything moved with amazing and very courteous efficiency.

There are 4 Meijer in the Flint area, but I was given the option of going to just one, so I'm guessing not all of the stores have clinics.

I've been pre registered through my county health department for well over a month, and through my healthcare provider.

2. Cool. There's like 25 or 30 Meijer in metro Detroit, so there should be at least 8 them with clinics

3. I get the feeling

they are getting ready to unleash the shots. My second shot will at casino. Large room with lots of parking. Got my first one last Monday at the county health Dept. not much room there.
