Related: About this forum'I will not be canceled,' UM regent Ron Weiser says as board demands his resignation
The University of Michigan board of regents voted Friday to censure fellow regent Ron Weiser and called for his resignation after controversial comments he made last week about top elected officials in Michigan.
Ron Weiser
The vote came during a special meeting called as the demands for Weiser's resignation continue to pile up. Weiser, chairman for the Michigan Republican Party and a mega donor to UM, has said he will not leave his post.
"I will not be canceled," he said during a brief appearance at the meeting.
"The members of the Board of Regents condemn in the strongest possible language the behavior of Regent Weiser, his language, and the actions taken therein, and calls on Regent Weiser to resign from the Board of Regents forthwith," the resolution read.
...
"Accountability is not cancellation. ... Your words could have killed someone," Regent Jordan Acker said during the meeting.
Following the meeting, Acker tweeted: "What does it say about a colleague who screams 'I will not be cancelled' and then departs immediately without even listening to what his colleagues say. Is that someone who is sorry? What does it say about a colleague who has told deans and members of the media that 'I've given too much money, they can't touch me' as recently as yesterday. Does that sound like someone who is sorry?"
