BREAKING: State elections bureau says Craig and Johnson did NOT file enough valid signatures.

BREAKING: State elections bureau says Craig and Johnson did NOT file enough valid signatures. It recommends that they NOT make the GOP gubernatorial primary ballot.

EDIT to add:

James Craig, Perry Johnson, 3 others shouldn't make ballot, Bureau of Elections says

Lansing — Former Detroit police Chief James Craig and businessman Perry Johnson, two of the top candidates for the Republican nomination for governor, didn't submit enough valid petition signatures to make the ballot, according to findings from the Michigan Bureau of Elections.

The bureau's revelations Monday evening shakes up the 2022 race to be Michigan's governor, potentially leaving Republicans without their most well-known candidate, Craig, and without their wealthiest hopeful, Johnson.

In a staff report, the bureau said it had tracked 36 petition circulators "who submitted fraudulent petition sheets consisting entirely of invalid signatures."

"In total, the bureau estimates that these circulators submitted at least 68,000 invalid signatures submitted across 10 sets of nominating petitions," the report said. "In several instances, the number of invalid signatures submitted by these circulators was the reason a candidate had an insufficient number of valid signatures."

The dispute will go to the state board of canvassers on Thursday for a ruling. That board has 2 repub and 2 Democratic board members. Not sure what would happen if they vote 2-2 on the issue.

As demmiblue noted in his post title, it appears that 5 candidates (not all for governor) are affected by this.

Perry Johnson aired a few TV ads here in mid-Michigan. A proud and loud Trumper. He has the vibes of a horror movie ventriloquist's dummy. Evil oozed from his pores. I'm sure I wasn't the only one he creeped out.

Why is it that the party that accuses the Democrats of fraud is almost always the party that actually engages in fraud?
Just another case of projection of guilt from the Republican side to the Democratic side.
They don't seem to understand that election laws apply to all parties.
