Twin Cities Superstorm: July 23-24, 1987

Any resident over the age of 40 who lived in the Twin Cities remember where they were on July 23, 1987. The largest rainfall event in Twin Cities' history began in the late evening and within six hours, ten inches of rain fell at the Twin Cities International Airport, causing massive flooding especially in the southern and western parts of the metro.

As of today, this was when the largest amount of rain fell in the airport.

1. I remember it well

On my street, all the basement apartments at the lower end were flooded. I was lucky to be at the higher end.
Water is powerful.

2. I remember that storm. I was trapped in my office downtown until about 1:00 a.m.

because the streets were too flooded to drive through safely, especially at night. Fortunately my basement didn't leak. That was a doozy.
